Add it to the history books: Woodford Historical Society awarded Centenary Medal

THE Woodford Historical Society has been awarded a Centenary Medal from the Royal Historical Society of Queensland (RHSQ) in recognition of it’s exceptional contribution to the history and heritage of Queensland.

Woodford Historical Society secretary Donna Grigor and president Ron Trim were “elated” when they received the email notifying them of the medal.

The Centenary Medal is awarded to those, in the opinion of the Council of Society, that have serviced the discipline of history in many forms, particularly to the research, preservation and promotion of Queensland history.

Secretary Donna Grigor said the society was very honoured and proud to receive the award.

“We are very proud of ourselves, but we wouldn’t have got it if it wasn’t for the members who did the hard yards 25 years ago,” she said.

The Woodford Historical Society president of 25 years Ron Trim remembers when the committee was first organised in 1998 and the meetings were held in the Woodford Ambulance station.

After working on a dairy farm at Neurum for most of his life, Mr Trim retired in Woodford in 2016 and takes joy in sharing his knowledge of local history with visitors to the museum.

The society’s 30 members can attend the Annual General Meeting on Thursday November 17 at the Commissariat Store in Brisbane to receive their Centenary medal.
