At last! Movie night brings smiles in Wamuran

ABOUT 100 people flocked to the park at Rangeview Estate for the movie night on Saturday, October 8, as fine weather finally enabled the Wamuran Lions Club to stage the event.

After the event had been postponed twice due to wet weather, Wamuran Lions Club member Kerri Raedel said the club was extremely relieved that “beautiful sunny weather finally appeared”.

“We were able to have all of our community tents up, BBQ trailer, and the families enjoyed a spacious area to sit and enjoy the movie,” she said.

Attendees sat on blankets and chairs, with parents and children enjoying their own space as they watched the free screening of PAW Patrol: The Movie.

Sausages on bread, fairy floss, snow cones, popcorn and drinks were consumed, with all monies raised going into local community projects such as the Lions Club’s upcoming Christmas Carnival, and bigger projects that Lions support such as Children’s Cancer Research.

“Sales exceeded expectations and it was well received to have something for dinner as well as snacks for the duration of the movie,” Kerri said.

The Lions also raffled off a brand new girls’ bike and boys’ bike, a female pack and a male pack, with all prizes donated by local community members and businesses to help the Wamuran Lions Club.

“As a local community group, we wanted to start re-engaging the community after a period of uncertainty,” Kerri said.

“It’s important for us to bring the community together and experience connecting again with others, whilst also educating them about what Wamuran’s Lions do in the community and also inviting community members to join.”

Kerri said there was an overwhelming response of gratitude from the community.

“Many came up to us and thanked us for hosting such a wonderful night, and asked us when the next one was,” she said.

“We were grateful for such amazing feedback and definitely plan to do another one early next year.”

Kerri said the wonderful attendance along with encouraging feedback “made the night a huge success”.

“After all of the weather limitations, we were truly thrilled at the success of the night,” she said.
