Kilcoy Race Club president Con Searle said the Keith Beavis and Carl Bartels Memorial Kilcoy Cup will be run as part of the thoroughbred action at the Butler McDermott Lawyers Vietnam Veterans Day.

Rain and floods have impeded the Kilcoy Race Club’s calendar of events for several months, but this hasn’t deterred Mr Searle and his band of workers from planning blockbuster meetings, including this Saturday’s.

“My club has forged a tremendous bond with a willing band of Vietnam Veterans who work tirelessly in setting up, filling many race day roles and then helping again with the clean-up after all our race meetings throughout the year,” Mr Searle said.

“They are an incredible asset to the race club.”

In addition to the six thoroughbred races on Cup day, there will be three harness and three mini-trot races.

Other features are likely to include the Bruce Duncan Jockeys Challenge, a Fashions on the Field competition, raffles, lucky gate prizes and a Pick-the-Card challenge.

Bookings for the Winning Post Gardens marquee can be made through www. kilcoyraces.com.

Admission for Saturday’s event is free, courtesy of Butler McDermott Lawyers, while the Beavis and Bartels families have been continuous sponsors of the Kilcoy Cup for 44 years.

Mr Searle said the Kilcoy racecourse will be a hive of activity akin to the set of a blockbuster movie in the coming weeks, as this Saturday’s meet is followed by other events on September 11 and 16.

Kilcoy Harness Raceday and Kilcoy Gift Sprint Races will be held on September 11, before another Kilcoy Raceday takes place five days later.
