Breach of bail back for juvenile offenders

BREACH for Bail for juvenile offenders has been re-introduced into State Legislation, following calls from Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington for them to return after they were scrapped by Labor in 2016.

“We know that since Labor watered down the youth justice laws eight years ago that there has been a growing youth crime epidemic,” Ms Frecklington said.

“Restoring Breach of Bail for juvenile offenders is a move I have consistently supported since

they were removed by Labor in 2016.

“Despite refusing to support its re-introduction for so long, the Palaszczuk Labor Government had an 11th hour backflip and have now brought back this policy.

“It is an admission that there is a serious youth crime crisis.

“In Parliament I spoke on behalf of the people of our community who have been impacted by the juvenile crime crisis.

“I am concerned however that the legislation passed in State Parliament will not provide the

whole answer to the youth crime problem and more needs to be done.

“Unfortunately, over the past eight years the Labor Government has failed victims of crime and it has also failed a generation of children,” Deb said.
