Caboolture continues to assert authority in Div 1 cricket
STANDOUT performances from Preston White (pictured) and Cameron Trask last Saturday enabled Caboolture to maintain its dominance in Sunshine Coast Div 1 cricket.
Following the previous weekend’s outright win over Nambour on Caboolture soil, the Caboolture players set themselves up for another victory as they overcame a poor start against Glasshouse at Glasshouse Mountains Sports Oval.
After making 206 in 51 overs, Caboolture dismissed Glasshouse for 67 in 31.2 overs before the host team fell to 2/31 in 13 overs in its second innings.
Having lost the toss and been invited to bat, the visitors slumped from 0/16 to 4/25 before White and Trask scored half-centuries to change the complexion.
White hit nine fours and a six in his 52, while Trask hit eight fours in his 50.
The 93-run partnership was followed by another collapse as Caboolture was reduced to 7/126, before the final four batters scored between 19 and 21 runs each as vital partnerships of 33, 6 and 41 unfolded.
Nathan Van Eekeren claimed 5/52 for the hosts while Joel Owen and Bailey Jackson shared the remaining wickets.
Glasshouse’s batters made no impression as the miserable first innings total included two 16-run partnerships.
White captured 5/26 while Trask had 2/10, and the other wicket-takers were John Flew, Jack Connew and Carter Simpson after this trio had scored handy runs in Caboolture’s lower order.
Trask and Flew picked up another wicket each before stumps, while Glasshouse opener Ricky Sawyer had the misfortune of being dismissed without scoring for the second time on the day.
Honours even in Div 2
Caboolture fought back on day one of the two-day Div 2 contest with Glasshouse at Caboolture Sports Cricket Club, after the visitors were in the box seat.
Glasshouse tallied 188 in 65 overs before Caboolture finished the day at 1/15 from eight overs.
After losing a wicket with one run on the board, Glasshouse gained a grip on the match as the visitors moved to 1/100.
Callum Byford and Daniel Walters scored half-centuries before the innings fell away badly, as 2/124 quickly became 4/124 before the total faltered to 8/158.
Twenty-three runs were added for the ninth wicket before seven runs were added for the last wicket, with Brock Topfer the final wicket to fall after making a vital 36 and losing five partners.
Nicholas Haffenden was the best of Caboolture’s bowlers with 4/39 while Jack Williams, Nathan Wilson, Joshua Burton and Ben Lapham shared the remaining wickets.
Ben Stokes (not to be confused with the England cricketer with the same name) claimed a crucial wicket for Glasshouse just before stumps as he won an appeal for lbw against Clayton Simpson.
Tewantin-Noosa openers decimate Caboolture’s Div 3 attack
Tewantin-Noosa’s Div 3 opening batters scored centuries last Saturday to set up a big total against Caboolture on day one of the two-day match at Noosa District Sports Complex.
Caboolture’s decision to bowl first backfired dramatically, as Tewantin-Noosa’s openers put on a 256-run partnership.
Richard Lee struck 14 fours and a six in his 124 from 202 balls, while Brendan Wright recorded 11 fours in his 101 from 198 balls.
The sundries count was also high as Caboolture conceded 17 runs in illegal bowling, as well as 16 byes and 15 leg byes.
Raymond Maller halted the home side’s progress with three wickets, including the openers, and Luke Tuza also took one wicket.
Tewantin-Noosa still remained in a strong position, finishing the day at 4/304 from 76 overs.
Curran too good for USC in Div 6
A superb all-round display from Todd Curran last Saturday put Caboolture in the driver’s seat on day one of the two-day contest against USC at Caboolture Sports Cricket Club.
Batting at number three, Curran’s 74 provided the backbone of Caboolture’s total of 215 before he claimed three wickets as USC crumbled to 6/31.
Seven Caboolture batters were dismissed for scores between 11 and 23, as several useful partnerships were broken before they could develop into anything lengthy.
Six of USC’s bowlers shared the wickets, with Cale Hughey the pick of them as he claimed 3/34.
After being dismissed in 57 overs, Caboolture had 17 overs to bowl before stumps.
The score advanced to 0/12 before the first wicket fell to a run out, and then wickets continued to tumble as Curran and teammate Patrick Lawson ripped through the middle order.
