Outright wins for Caboolture in Div 1 and 6 cricket

THERE were countless standout performances in the two-day senior cricket matches involving Caboolture on the past two Saturdays.

Jackson Mills scored a fast century for Caboolture against Nambour in Div 1 cricket.
Jackson Mills scored a fast century for Caboolture against Nambour in Div 1 cricket.

These included a double century, a century, 12 wickets for one bowler, and numerous five-wicket hauls.

Caboolture’s Div 1 cricketers won by an innings, having dominated against Nambour from go to whoa at Caboolture Sports Cricket Club.

Nambour was dismissed for 79 in 40.1 overs, and then a slashing century to Jackson Mills led Caboolture to a total of 2/229 declared in 39 overs.

Batting a second time, Nambour was all out for 81 in 41.2 overs.

In the first innings, Nambour slumped from 0/28 to 4/49 and later lost its last six wickets for just nine runs.

All four Caboolture bowlers shared the wickets, with Carter Simpson and captain John Flew snaring two each while Daniel Bell took one.

The standout was Cameron Trask, with 5/17 in his 14.1 overs.

It was then a case of the Jackson duo stealing the show, as Caboolture duo Jackson Mills and Jackson Simpson put on an opening partnership of 179.

Mills scored 123 from just 82 balls, including 11 fours and six sixes, before he was caught in the deep as he sought another boundary.

Following two wickets to Samuel Eiby, Preston White struck a huge six during his 17 not out.

When Caboolture’s captain signalled the declaration, Simpson had made a steady 73 not out from 118 balls, with just four boundaries.

Having top-scored with 29 in Nambour’s first innings, Steven Ledger struck the first ball of Nambour’s second innings to the boundary. He finished the first day on 30 not out, while Nambour slumped to 3/38 in 12 overs as Bell claimed all three wickets.

On day two, resistance was brief before the last seven wickets fell for a mere 19 runs.

White snared 5/9 from 8.2 overs while Simpson grabbed 2/3 from two overs.

Double century in Div 2

A double century to opening batter Jayden Coffin set up a comfortable first innings victory for Caboolture in the Div 2 contest with Nambour at the Nambour Showground.

Having recently returned to cricket following two anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions in the past two seasons, Coffin struck 30 fours and seven sixes in his score of 200 from 194 balls.

Coffin’s incredible knock led the visitors to 9/308 from 80 overs on day one of the two-day game.

Remarkably, Caboolture’s total was “only” 276 when Coffin was dismissed!

The scoring was sedate at first, as only 31 runs were scored in 63 minutes before the first wicket fell.

Caboolture stuttered to 4/89 before Coffin asserted himself, and some late order hitting from Jack Connew pushed the total beyond 300.

Nambour’s Tony Perren captured 5/80 from 18 overs.

With Caboolture declaring its innings closed before play began last Saturday, Nambour stumbled to 3/38 before an 80-run stand unfolded.

The hosts subsequently disintegrated to 152 all out.

Greg Turnbull scored 57 as an opener while Perren completed a good all-round match with eight fours in his 47 at number five.

Caboolture’s Nicholas Haffenden took 5/29 from 18 overs, while Connew (3/41 from 25) and Jack Williams (2/44 from 14.4) also did well.

USC holds the aces in Div 3

USC had the better of the Div 3 contest at Caboolture Sports Cricket Club, without forcing an outright victory.

USC amassed a total of 294 on day one, with Fletcher Ward top-scoring at number four with 82 while opener Sean Lucas made 81.

The second half of the order fell away as a total of 350-plus beckoned, and Suraj Rijal was stranded on 48 not out at number five when the final wicket fell to a run out.

Aaron Clegg captured 5/49 from 15.1 overs for Caboolture while Luke Tuza had 3/64 from 12.5.

After finishing the first day at 1/12, Caboolture added a further 100 runs on day two before being dismissed.

USC enforced the follow-on, with Caboolture reaching a safe position before finishing on 6/137 in 38 overs.

Superbly fought battle in Div 6

Palmwoods Red bowler Otis Clarke-Lang and Caboolture all-rounder Patrick Lawson were in spectacular form as a fascinating and fluctuating Div 6 tussle unfolded at Briggs Park.

Visiting team Caboolture was dismissed for 129 in 26 overs before the hosts were all out for 118 in 30.1 overs.

In their second innings, the visitors finished day one at 4/61 from 13 overs. They were dismissed for 123 a week later, and went on to win outright by 35 runs.

In Caboolture’s first innings, Clarke-Lang was in devastating form as he took the first wicket before a run was scored, on his way to claiming 9/45 from 13 overs.

Six of his victims were bowled, two were caught behind, and one was lbw.

Clarke-Lang was in sight of capturing all 10 wickets in an innings, but he was foiled when the wicketkeeper claimed a stumping off Paul Hardingham to bring about the final wicket.

Lawson top-scored for Caboolture with 47 at number five.

In reply, the hosts reached 3/92 as Patrick Robinson looked ominous. He struck eight fours and a six, before his dismissal proved a big setback.

Palmwoods Red moved to 4/105 before losing its last six wickets for a miserable 13 runs.

Lawson finished with 5/21 from 10.1 overs, while Peter Quirk picked up 3/8 from four overs.

Raymond Maller and Craig Gibbs took one wicket each.

Having gained an unexpected first innings lead, the visitors lost an early wicket in their second innings.

Sukhjit Dhot and Mark Herbert provided solidity but then Caboolture fell from 1/61 to 4/61, with Clarke-Lang claiming his tenth wicket of the day before Adam Seeber grabbed two scalps.

On day two, Caboolture batted for 27 overs before being all out.

Clarke-Lang’s 3/26 from 11 overs in Caboolture’s second innings gave him match figures of 12/71 from 24 overs.

With Palmwoods Red chasing a target of 135, opener Joshua Mackechnie led the way with 56 but none of his teammates could score more than 10.

The hosts fell to 4/45 before some middle order resistance followed, but then the lower order fell apart.

Lawson and Quirk grabbed three wickets apiece, while Herbert took two.

The match ended with the score on 9/99, as one of the batters had to leave early due to work. This resulted in defeat for Palmwoods Red.
