Television personality and Somerset resident, Kimberley Busteed, will be the MC at the Somerset Australia Day awards and Citizenship Ceremony.

Activities on Thursday, January 26 will include a citizenship ceremony, brunch and the announcement of Australia Day award nominees and winners with special guests Kimberley Busteed and John Lazarou.

The program will start at 9am with 19 new Australian citizens being welcomed, a delicious brunch served by Somerset business The Picnic Society, followed by the announcement of Australia Day award winners.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said residents were encouraged to support the community on this special day.

“Come together to celebrate members of our community that have gone above and beyond with the awards ceremony and help us welcome new citizens to the region,” Cr Lehmann said.

“There’s a great opportunity to mingle with everyone over brunch and celebrate all that Australia Day means to you at this free community event.

“We are also very fortunate to have secured Queensland television personality, Kimberley Busteed, to MC the event.”

Ms Busteed is well known as a presenter on Channel 7’s Creek to Coast weekender programs.

She juggles life on the road with her husband, cattle producer Chris Simpson, and their three children.

They both love the Somerset region and have invested heavily throughout the area, owning and leasing several properties specialising in seed stock and land management programs.

Cr Lehmann said he was also very excited to announce that Somerset’s 2023 Australia Day Ambassador would be John Lazarou, founder of The Coffee Club.

Mr Lazarou co-founded The Coffee Club in 1989 and turned a single café in Brisbane into Australia’s largest coffee shop group, with over 500 stores globally.

Over the past three decades, The Coffee Club has donated over $1.1 million to various charities such as The Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The program of events has been made possible by Council and the Australian Government through the National Australia Day.

Bookings are required for catering purposes. Secure your free ticket at www.somersettickets.com.au

Council will also offer free entry at its Kilcoy, Lowood and Toogoolawah pools with a free barbecue and children’s entertainment at each site.

The pools will be open from 9am to 4pm.
