Moreton Bay Regional Council is consolidating three works depots to create one centralised facility to help reduce maintenance and operational costs.

Construction began in November 2021 on the $34.3 million works depot located on Boundary Road in Narangba.

Councillor Mark Booth said more than 320 staff will operate from this new facility, which will include greater storage, a fleet workshop and staff amenities for the Asset Maintenance crew.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the move will help meet the current and future needs of Council staff and the Moreton Bay Region, and improve response times to requests by building a major works depot in the heart of the region.

“In less than 15 years, this region will have a greater population than Tasmania, and a greater demand for essential services,” Mayor Flannery said.

“To prepare for this growth we are consolidating our three old works depots at Petrie, Burpengary and Deception Bay into one centralised facility in Narangba.

“Part of this upgrade will include the construction of a new intersection to provide safe entry and exit points into the new depot.

“As well as rehabilitating approximately 950m of Boundary Road to improve the surface ahead of the new facility opening in mid-2023, weather permitting.

“While we need to spend now to make this change, the long-term savings for the community and Council will be significant.

“From upkeeping parks, to fixing potholes and cracked footpaths, and providing weed management, this team is out every day in every corner of the region.

“We care about our frontline staff, so it was important this new facility delivered a modern and sustainable space to provide a safe and more productive working environment for staff.”
