Infrastructure Recovery Sub-Group chair Councillor Jason Wendt said 36 submissions had been given the green light by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, jointly funded by Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

“With the total recovery bill expected to be significant, the initial approvals of $16 million towards Somerset flood recovery works is welcome,” Cr Wendt said.

“An additional 13 repair submissions are waiting approval and these have an estimated value of $13 million.

“The community can expect to see a large amount of flood repairs completed over the next 18 months, and we ask for patience from road users as our team and contractors take on this mammoth task.”

Cr Wendt said Council was taking whatever steps it could to try to expedite these works.

“An example is stockpiling volumes of concrete pipes, noting that there are severe supply chain problems affecting these and other materials,” he said.
