Council approves old Esk fire station lease to Men’s Shed

SOMERSET Regional Council has approved a lease of the old Esk fire station on Heap Street to Esk Men’s Shed Inc.

Human Social Recovery Sub-Group representative Cr Cheryl Gaedtke said: “We bought the old Esk fire station in 2020 because we saw a need to support the growth of the community and we saw an opportunity with the fire station moving to Ipswich Street.

“We are a growing area and with that comes a need to provide more community spaces.

“We have been active supporters of the Men’s Shed movement and have already provided land and buildings in Lowood and Toogoolawah and now Esk for this great movement.

“Today’s approval is for a peppercorn rental of the fire station $1 a year to the Esk Men’s Shed Inc as long as they look after utility costs and maintenance for the site.

“We know they will be proud custodians of the building which is in a prime location next to the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail and Pipeliner Park.”
