Cycling event turns 20

Somerset Regional Council approved the application for the 20th Annual Lifecycle Cycling Classic, a 35km cycling event to take place in August around Lowood.

Economic Development and Tourism Committee representative Bob Whalley said: “The Cycling Classic has been run for 19 years in the Somerset Region and we anticipate another successful milestone event.”

This year event organisers have proposed a new course, which will run from Lowood to Coominya and back via Mount Tarampa, avoiding the Brisbane Valley Highway.

“The inclusion of Coominya in the route will give supporters additional locations to cheer on the riders,” Cr Whalley said.

“After the success of the Rail Trail Fun Run last weekend, I’m sure this event will be equally popular for cycling enthusiasts.”

Past events have attracted 300 competitors and hundreds of supporters from around south-east Queensland to the Somerset Region.
