Safety Survey Being Completed on Somerset Footpaths

SOMERSET Regional Council has commissioned engineers, Shepherd Services, to provide a detailed condition report assessing Somerset’s footpaths and cycleways.

Mayor Graeme Lehmann said council had used the services of the engineers previously to assess the local road network and the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.

“These asset reports have been really useful for helping us win grants, dealing with our insurers and auditors and helping us hone our annual bitumen road resealing program and capital works program,” Cr Lehmann  said.

“This year we have commissioned Shepherd Services to log the exact locations of footpath network defects so we can fix these as efficiently as possible.”

Council has 56 kilometres of existing footpaths to maintain and builds new paths routinely.

“Shepherd Services will do the footpath survey from an electric bike that is kitted out with specialist equipment to pick up cracks and pavement displacements and provide other information,” Cr Lehmann said.

“Please look out for the engineers during February while they help us manage and build our great community path network.”
