Cyclists ready for Wamuran trek

LEADING cyclists will flock to Wamuran on Sunday (June 20) as round one of the Queensland Road Team Series (QRTS) takes place.

Teams ranging from six to 10 people are expected to come from the Sunshine, Gold and Fraser Coasts as well as Hamilton Wheelers Cycling Club, which is based in Nundah.

The cyclists will ride in Elimbah on Saturday before the following day’s racing starts in Wamuran and goes along W Lindsay Rd, Old N Rd, Campbells Pocket Rd, Top Yard Rd, Tidwell Rd, Pedwell Rd, and Spillane St.

The women’s division is scheduled to start at 7am, followed by the men’s masters at 7.05am and the men’s elite at 9.45am, with the first two divisions riding 75.5km before the men’s elite ride 86.3km.

Race Director Mike Crawley anticipated a fast and competitive program, saying the course was challenging and that it would test teamwork and strategy.

It is expected that the racing will cause minor delays to local traffic, with police and traffic controllers providing directions.
