Don’t miss the deadline for new three-year dog registration
With the deadline for dog registration renewals being September 1, Somerset Regional Council reminds all dog owners about the upcoming due date and the changes that have been introduced to the registration process.
In a significant step believed to be a first for Queensland, Council has extended the registration period to three years.
This means that the expiry date on registration tags will be set at June 30, 2026. This change offers both convenience and flexibility to the region’s pet owners.
Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said taking the innovative step to lengthen the registration period will make life easier for Somerset dog lovers.
“We are excited to introduce this extended registration period, providing dog owners with a more manageable renewal cycle. This initiative aligns with our commitment to simplify processes for our residents,” he said.
“I urge dog owners who haven’t already completed their registration renewals to act before the fast-approaching deadline of 1 September. By doing so, they can capitalise on the generous registration discounts available and potentially sidestep a hefty $309 fine.”
Around 4,000 registration renewal notices were issued to dog owners across Somerset in June, however all dog owners in the region are required to register their dogs under the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act, whether or not they received a notice.
