Frightening Fundraiser: Historical Village Ghoulies and Ghosties

THE Caboolture Historical Village Ghoulies and Ghosties event on October 31 attracted large crowds donning the Halloween spirit.

Families and individuals of all ages were invited to attend and walk through many of the village’s heritage buildings which were decorated in spooky themes, such as Harry Potter, Monster Mash and Alien Crash Zone.

For those a little braver, there were also interactive buildings including actors and props that moved and made noise.

From 5-6pm all sounds and movement stopped temporarily in a “Scare Free Hour” for young children.

Village volunteer and Halloween enthusiast Saskia Huismans said the Ghoulies and Ghosties event is the village’s

largest event of the year and raises funds for the village and its maintenance.

“The village is important for the whole community, but particularly for schools,” she said.

“We teach children about history and help them to

understand how things used to work.”

Specifically, students are taught about how lifestyle, transport, communication, and industry have changed over the years because of technology and innovation, which Ms Huismans said is very important.

“We also really need to bridge the generational gap.

“We need more young people to keep the village alive.

“That’s why we are encouraging community groups to come get involved.

“If they help us, we can help them.”

Ms Huismans said the village is entirely volunteer run and is comprised of several other special interest clubs including the Antique Machinery and Restoration Club and Caboolture Gem Club, which also had displays at the Ghoulies and Ghosties event.

“A lot of credit must also go to Events Coordinator Anne Relph who was the founder of this event and loves Halloween.”
