Funding to make priority projects in Somerset a reality
The Federal Government is investing $1.975 million in priority projects across the Somerset Region, supporting local jobs, businesses and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The projects are being funded through a $500,000 million extension the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program taking the total extenditure through this program to $3 billion.
Senator Paul Scarr said the funding reflects Somerset Regional Council’s top priorities and will ensure the needs of our local communities are met.
“With the challenges presented by Covid-19, bushfires, floods and other events, the past couple of years have been tough for communities, businesses and local councils,” Senator Scarr said.
“That’s why we have moved quickly to approve funding for priority projects across the Somerset, paving the way for shovels to hit the dirt to make them a reality.
Somerset Regional Council has prioristised a list of projects for the funding, focusing on road and drainage projects in Braemore and Kilcoy and an amenities upgrade for Coominya.
Somerset Regional Council Mayor, Graeme Lehmann,was ecstatic that the Council would receive $1.975 million under Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Phase 3 as part of the Federal budget.
“Council has confirmed with the Department of Infrastructure that our projects including the resurfacing of multiple tennis courts, upgrades to playground and park equipment, new amenities block for Linville and road, footpath and drainage improvement works at Kilcoy Lowood and Mount Tarampa are all eligible for funding and we plan to proceed with these works in the near future,” Cr Lehmann said.
“Somerset has been hit hard by repeated natural disasters resulting in damage to property and tragically, loss of lives.
“This funding announcement comes at a time when our community really needs some good news and we are delighted that we can deliver a range of projects that provide improved services to our residents and visitors.”
