Grace College Caboolture helps to clean up Australia
MORE than 400 students and 30 staff from Grace Lutheran College Caboolture collected a cumulative 10 giant bags of rubbish on Clean up Australia Day.
Middle school students cleaned up the entire school, while senior students (accompanied by teachers) ventured out into the nearby community areas to clean up the streets.
Year 12 Faith and Service Captains Lily and Millie said Clean Up Australia is when the community comes together to help our environment, one piece of rubbish at a time.
“This day is very important to us and our peers as it alters our perceptions by providing us an understanding on the ways to keep our world clean and the good consequences of that,” they said.
“It is our mission as the Faith and Service Captains of Grace Caboolture campus to service and lead our community: guided by the strength of God to support us and encourage us to promote the benefits of this important day to those around us.”
Year 11 student Jessica said Australia Day is all about making a difference as a class by cleaning up.
“This task meant we were reflecting on the history of this land, and it has been happening since the 1990s, acknowledging the environment that was impacted by people living here,” Jessica said.
“The activity was not just about cleaning up, but also about understanding and recognizing the impact of human activities on the environment.
“It was a way for the whole class, as well as the school, to come together for a purpose and learn about their surroundings.”
