Not far behind him with 91.75, Indira Malesa also had her hard work and effort recognised being announced runner up DUX at the opening service and awards ceremony.

Both graduates now have big plans for 2023 – Christopher will be heading down to Canberra to study a Bachelor of Advanced Mathematics and Science at the Australian National University, while Indira will head to the University of Queensland to study a Bachelor of Business Management, before adding law on in her second year.

Asking questions and having good time management were Christopher and Indira’s key pieces of advice to future students.

Indira, who studied business, music, legal studies, HPE and general English, said using the resources around her, including her teachers was crucial to her success.

“Not being afraid to get things wrong and ask questions is important,” she said.

“Because if you can just admit that you don’t understand, there is so much help they can offer you.

“Just don’t be afraid to ask questions.”

Christopher said there were moments last year when he felt “the pressure really mounting”, but found that if he wrote everything down and broke apart what he had to do he felt “a lot cooler about it”.

“Like Indira said, asking questions is a big one,” Christopher said.

With a passion for STEM, Christopher last year studied chemistry, methods, specialist, physics, biology and general English and said that he was “pretty surprised” by his ATAR.

“I didn’t expect it to be honest.

“I mean, I knew that I’d put the work in and I was happy with that.”

Likewise, Indira said her ATAR was much higher than she expected, but it was a nice surprise just before Christmas.

Both students are set to commence their university studies at the end of February.
