A GOFUNDME has been set up for 15-year-old Alex from Mount Hallen who last month was unexpectantly diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Alex from Mount Hallen was set to start year 10 this year, but is now fighting for his life after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Alex’s mother, Kami, is now relying on her small income as an apprentice at a Brisbane Bakery to pay for bills as well as the additional costs from Alex’s treatment and hospital stays.

The single mum of four boys has been travelling to Brisbane twice a week whilst her son is undergoing treatment, after she lost all her annual leave when the bakery was sold in November of 2022.

Kami said the GoFund Me, which was set up by her long-time friend Juliet, would mean she wouldn’t have to stress about paying bills while she takes time off for Alex.

“I was doing 20 hours a week – two ten-hour shifts a week just to try and make sure I was getting enough money in to cover bills at home as well as the additional cost of being at hospital, covering extra food and parking,” Kami said.

Alex, who was set to start year 9 at Toogoolawah State High School this week was diagnosed on his 15thbirthday, after have had a biopsy the night before.

“He woke up in hospital for his 15th birthday,” Kami said.

Kami said that whilst Alex is responding well to treatment, there is still a long road ahead and he is struggling emotionally.

“We ended up being stuck in hospital for two weeks because he had fluid around the heart that wouldn’t shift.”

To help Alex have his mum by his side while he undergoes treatment, people are encouraged to donate through his GoFundMe page https://gofund.me/4624fb1b
