Somerset Councillor Cheryl Gaedtke (pictured) said the development of a strategy for the region was exciting.

“Somerset has a vibrant arts community and Council would like to hear from residents and creatives to guide the development of a five-year strategy,” Cr Gaedtke said.

“The strategy will define key priority areas where Council can focus on services, programs and facilities so that the creative community can thrive.”

Cr Gaedtke said arts and culture play an essential role in enhancing social connectedness and wellbeing in Somerset.

“Art and culture also contributes to our livability, identity and ongoing sustainability,” Cr Gaedtke said.

“Council wants to hear how our residents experience culture in their daily life and how they think arts and culture can help to create an inclusive and vibrant community.”

Council is inviting the community to play a part in developing the five-year strategy by completing a short online survey which is available at www.somerset.qld.gov.au.

To complement the strategy development, Council will host community consultation workshops around Somerset at the following locations:

• 21 July Kilcoy Explore Centre 9am-12pm; Progress Association Hall, Linville 1.30 – 4.30pm.

• 25 July Alexandra Hall, Toogoolawah, 1-4pm; Esk library, Esk 5.30-8.30pm.

• 27 July Lutheran Church Hall, Lowood 9am-12pm.

• 18 August - Arts Networking event, Somerset Civic Centre, Esk from 6.30pm.
