Junior Wolves duo plays at Suncorp Stadium
Stanley River Wolves juniors Eli Pollock and Fletcher Hansen had a memorable time at Suncorp Stadium on April 13 as they played in the curtain-raiser before the Dolphins versus Rabbitohs NRL match.
Eli and Fletcher accepted an invitation to play for the Carnarvon Cubs U8s who were two players short for their game against Souths Sunnybank.
Fletcher topped off the occasion by scoring a try, and the duo also met rugby league legend Johnathan Thurston.
Eli and Fletcher were thrilled to play at Suncorp Stadium for the first time, after they were part of the Stanley River team which played in a curtain-raiser at the Dolphins versus Titans trial at Kayo Stadium in February.
The opportunity at Suncorp Stadium arose for Eli and Fletcher after the Wolves formed a healthy relationship with Carnarvon and other clubs from the Roma district, with Stanley River hosting trial games for these clubs at extremely short notice last month.
Eli’s dad Shane, who coaches the Wolves U8s, said the experience that the juniors received with the opportunities given by the NRL Dolphins was “nothing short of amazing”.
“Not too many can say they ran out and played a game of rugby league at Suncorp, or can claim they scored a try there as well - well done Fletcher,” Shane said.
“So much appreciation goes out to the Carnarvon Cubs for the invite to participate with them.
“We are very thankful that they thought of us!
“Being able to participate like this with other clubs forms great relationships and only benefits the players and the game even more as we go!
