Kilcoy Global Foods acquires iconic local butchery
KILCOY BUTCHERY is about to undergo a significant changing of the guard, as Kilcoy Global Foods (KGF) acquires the butchery which has had nearly 65 years of ownership within the Stanton family.
After the butchery was established and run by Eric and Les Walker in 1953, Ivan Stanton purchased it in 1958 before Ivan’s son Peter took on the ownership with wife Pat in 1988.
With KGF about to own and manage Kilcoy Butchery, Peter said he saw the situation as “two families coming together”.
“They have a vision which is pretty strong,” Peter said of KGF.
“They’re very community minded, and they want to provide a facility that’s for the community.
“We thought it was time to move on, so we put the business on the market.”
Employment opportunities, community connections and access to the finest locally produced beef and Victorian sourced lamb are among the positives for locals, according to Kilcoy Global Foods Australian president Jiah Falcke.
“Peter and Pat have built a fantastic business over the years and they have left a tremendous legacy with a butchery which is highly regarded throughout the region for the quality of their produce, great service and strong commitment to the local community,” Jiah said.
“We just love the idea that local Kilcoy residents and those passing through the town having access to some of the best beef and lamb available in Australia via our local production facility.
“Being able to improve the access to our Kilcoy branded products for both loyal and new customers is important to us.
“I suspect the town of Kilcoy will become a highly sought after destination for people across South East Queensland who want to access the highest quality, fresh meat to enjoy in their own home.
“Both our business and Kilcoy Butchery were established in 1953 so there’s great synergy and history right here in the Somerset Region, and we are keen to build on that history together.”
KGF confirmed the transition of the legacy from Peter and Pat will occur until the end of this year, and that all current staff will remain while new employment opportunities will arise as a result of the purchase.
“We will be increasing our product range and our service offer so we will be looking to add to our existing team of staff,” Jiah said.
“We also see a greater opportunity for the business to engage with the local community.
“There are a number of excellent partnerships in place and we are now in a position to explore more opportunities to support our local community.”
Kilcoy Butchery is set to officially change hands in September.
