Woodford Library is open as a gathering point for people trapped by rising floodwaters, with evacuation centres expected to open this afternoon.

A council spokesperson said the Woodford Library was already open, and expects evacuation centres will be open this afternoon.

While local residents are thought to be self-sufficient in their own homes, the spokesperson said the concern was travellers trapped by road closures on the D'Aguilar Highway and elsewhere.

Council crews will be placing signs to direct traffic to the evacuation centres.

The spokesperson said pets are also welcomed at the evacuation centres.
