Fatal hit and run, Caboolture

An man has been arrested over a hit and run incident that left a 45-year-old man dead in Caboolture on Saturday morning (June 12). Collin Young’s body was discovered by a cyclist at the intersection of Porter Road and Beerburrum Road near the Caboolture Show Grounds, at about 7:00am.


Beerburrum Road, between Porter Road and Tuckeroo Drive, was closed between 7.15am and 11.15am as police carried out preliminary investigations.

Officers said initial investigations indicated Mr Collins was walking near the intersection when he was struck by the vehicle, which was then tracked using CCTV.

As a result, a 23-year-old Aspley man was arrested and charged with manslaughter and driver show callous disregard. He was due to appear in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on Tuesday (15 June).

Police will allege Mr Collins was walking near the intersection when he was struck by a vehicle driven by the 23-year-old and that the vehicle involved was not at the scene when the injured man was located.

Mr Collins was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch are continuing to investigate the incident.

Police have continued to urge anyone with any information to come forward and appealed for witnesses to contact them.
