An Indian restaurant has come to Lowood for the first time, with Choice of India having already made its mark in the Moreton region before opening its doors in the Somerset region during April.

Lowood became the second location for a Choice of India restaurant, with the first one opening in Narangba in 2016 and achieving a prestigious award in 2020.

The Narangba-based Choice of India was named Best Indian restaurant in the Moreton Bay North region, having received an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars on its facebook page in the space of several years.

Choice of India owner Nittan Raj saw an opportunity to expand the franchise, and settled on Lowood as the location after doing a survey next to Drakes.

Many residents in the Lowood area responded enthusiastically to the idea of an Indian restaurant in town, after they had to trek to the Ipswich region if they wanted a meal from an Indian restaurant.

Less than four weeks after opening in Lowood, Choice of India was recommended on Restaurant Guru for 2021.

It didn’t take long for the Choice of India Lowood facebook page to receive favourable comments from clients, with more than 200 people liking the page and also more than 200 people following the page.

Mr Raj said that a number of locals had contacted him directly to say they were happy that they no longer had to travel far to attend an Indian restaurant.

“Good quality authentic Indian food,” Mr Raj emphasised.

The array of menu items includes chicken, beef/lamb, seafood and vegetarian curries, garlic prawns, naan bread, varieties of rice and more.

Even with the impact of COVID-19 since early last year, Mr Raj said that deliveries and takeaways remained in high demand and didn’t stop, despite restrictions with dine-ins.

Originally from Punjab in northern India, Mr Raj has worked in the restaurant sector since migrating to Australia about eight years ago, and living in south-east Queensland.
