Since October, public and private properties have been specifically targeted for copper wire.

The locations targeted include sport clubs, energy infrastructure and private residences.

Officer in Charge of Ipswich Police Station, Senior Sergeant Liz Burns-Hutchison said thieves may mistakenly think electrical wires are an easy target, but removing cabling is very dangerous for offenders, energy workers and the community.

Police investigate all complaints to find those removing cabling or knowingly receiving stolen property.

Offenders can face arrest and serious criminal charges, including burglary and stealing, with significant penalties for these offences.
