The rodeo will have the usual events that appeal to rodeo enthusiasts, from the rough stock events such as the bull ride, saddle bronc and bareback bronc rides to the timed events such as team roping, rope and tie, and steer wrestling.

Kilcoy Rodeo Committee Inc secretary Maddison Smith said the rodeo would feature some amazing female competitors in the barrel racing and breakaway roping.

“We have a huge line-up of junior events too – U18 bull ride, junior barrel race, junior breakaway roping and the crowd favourite – U12 poddy ride,” she said.

Ms Smith said there had been great feedback from past competitors about the Kilcoy rodeo, and that it was expected there would be many returning competitors.

“The rodeo will be much the same as previous years in terms of events, however this year we have overhauled the layout and created much more space in our new and improved larger entertainment area,” she said.

After trade stalls couldn’t be fitted in at last year’s event due to Covid density restrictions, Ms Smith said they would return this year while there would also be some extra food stalls and food options.

“During the rodeo there will be some fun entertainment and competitions for the kids and maybe one thrown in for adults too,” she said.

“Midway through the afternoon performance of the rodeo, we will feature the grand entry which is always a crowd favourite.

“After the completion of the rodeo, the fabulous band South West will take the stage to entertain the crowd long into the night.”

Ms Smith said the Kilcoy Rodeo Committee was thrilled to hold the rodeo in August after thinking there would be a cancellation this year (after flooding ruined the planned rodeo back in March).

“The Kilcoy Rodeo Committee is a not-for-profit organisation and our aim in running the rodeo is to raise funds to donate to other local organisations,” she said.

“Being able to run a rodeo in 2022 means we can bring a great event to the local community and fulfil our aim of giving back.”

Tickets will only be available online, at www.ticketebo.com. au/KilcoyRodeo. This is to prevent a repeat of last year when people were turned away at the gate as soon as maximum capacity was reached.

Camping is available on-site, with a cost of $10 per site for up to five people. Bookings also need to be made online.

A courtesy bus will leave from the bus stop in William Street and the Visitor Information Centre in Hope Street at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm. The bus will do a return trip to town at 9.30pm and midnight.

For large groups outside of these times, please contact the Kilcoy Rodeo facebook page.
