More bus services needed, says Glass House MP
MEMBER for Glass House, Andrew Powell, is calling for an immediate increase in bus services between Woodford and Caboolture.
Mr Powell vowed he would continue to fight for this cause.
Mr Powell said that while the railway corridor from Caboolture was becoming busy, it was not as densely populated as the Redcliffe rail spur.
“What I would like to see done immediately, and progressively built upon, is an increased bus service between Woodford and Caboolture,” he said.
The State Member for Glass House recalled that last year, in conjunction with local communities, he tabled a petition calling on the Government to increase the current four service per day bus arrangement to six or eight daily services.
Mr Powell said that the Minister for Transport and Main Roads refused the request, having stated that the existing services had an average of only 11 passengers for each trip.
Mr Powell stressed that this small number wasn’t because of a lack of interest or need for public transport, but rather because the timetable was so inflexible.
“Woodford, Delaneys Creek, D’Aguilar and Wamuran are being treated like regional towns when they’re not,” Mr Powell said.
“They are, at most, 30 minutes away from the Caboolture town centre and have populations to justify and support better, more frequent public transport.
“I will continue to fight for such.”
