The plan was announced today, (Wednesday) by Mark Bailey, Minister for Transport and Main Roads, as part of a plan to introduce extra trains before the Olympics.

Mr Bailey said the government would exercise its option to build a total of 65 new trains at a new factory in Maryborough.

In addition to the manufacture of the new trains, Mr Bailey said a maintenance facility will be built in Moreton Bay.

A spokesperson for Mr Bailey said detailed planning of the Moreton Bay facility was yet to be carried out, including the actual location of the facility.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads would work with Moreton Bay Regional Council to identify a suitable location, the spokesperson said.
