Moreton Bay's future a juggling act
26 federal, state and local government politicians got together in an unusual event to plan for the huge population growth happening across the Moreton Bay Regional Council area.
Aside from announcing federal and state funds for road upgrades at Young’s crossing, Joyner and the Dayboro road, the politicians largely concentrated on how to cooperate funding infrastructure ranging from better broadband and mobiles in growing and new suburbs, improving sports facilities, upgrading the Gateway and Bruce highways feeding into the region, developing better education and job opportunities while retaining the region’s enviable lifestyle for families.
Federal Defence Minister and Federal MP for Dickson Peter Dutton said maintaining the region’s lifestyle while providing more tertiary education, more local jobs and upgrading the already congested road system was critical.
Deputy Premier Steven Miles (MP for Murrumba) agreed, saying he wanted to ensure lots of greenspace was left between higher density housing and new suburbs.
Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery ensured the political unity ticket by getting all the politicians agreeing to support the Dolphins as the NRL expansion team.
Flannery is pushing for the team to be called the Moreton Bay Dolphins to raise the profile of the region which he said will house 700,000 people by 2041.
