Mr Neumann called for the inquiry in a bid to investigate the critical lack of doctors across outer metropolitan, rural and regional Australia.

“Submissions have been made to the inquiry from range of organisations, including doctors, GP practice managers, universities, peak bodies, health advocates and concerned patients,” Mr Neumann said.

Residents living in the lower Somerset are classified as having the access to GPs as residents of inner Brisbane suburbs like Bulimba and Newstead.

"There is a need to bring in a system that recognises the challenges of those living on the fringes of major cities.

"These are just arbritary lines on a map, the government needs to look at the whole system again," Mr Neumann said.
