Rivers dropping but roads still closed

A number of roads around the Somerset region remain under flood watch, even as floodwaters begin to recede.

The 'Twin Bridges' section of Wivenhoe Pocket remains flooded, with the Brisbane River between Lowood and Fernvale breaking its banks and covering more than 50 metres of farm land either side of the river.

While there were signs of water beginning to recede, around the district creeks continued to run strongly, as waters from further inland continue to feed the already swollen waterways.

With the possibility of more rain, authorities are pleading with drivers to avoid floodwaters and remember the 'If it's flooded, forget it' message.
