Vern Doyle, president of the Toogoolawah Show Society, said the risk to the competing animals was too great, with even more rain forecast for the area.

"Animal welfare is our number one concern, the arena was getting quite muddy, once it starts to get churned up, there was too big a chance an animal could come down and break a leg, so we have made the decision to postpone the event," Mr Doyle said.

"Our next concern, of course, is the safety and comfort of competitors and spectators, no one wants to get caught in a mudpit, so we thought it was best for everyone if we postponed the event."

Mr Doyle said the Show Society and the Rodeo Committee were confident of rescheduling the event, and had already been in contact with sanctioning body, NRA, to investigate optional dates.

"We have asked them for some alternate dates, we will look at those to find the one that suits us best, and we will move to that date."

With a number of businesses and individuals all contributing to the Toogoolawah Charity Rodeo, Mr Doyle said the organisers were grateful for the support.

"Our major sponsor is the Toogoolawah Pharmacy, we are grateful and appreciative of every individual, business and group that supports us, but especially to our major supporters."

The revised date for the Toogoolawah Charity Rodeo will be advised after confirmation from the organisers and the sanctioning NRA.
