Care4esK has arranged the event to provide the community with the chance to learn about the region’s native wildlife, incidentally as Care4esK has also urged drivers to be wary of koalas near the roads.

Saturday’s proceedings will start at 12.30pm, before Aunty Jannine Smith performs the Welcome to Country at 12.40pm.

Care4esK president Darren Bate and Australian Earth Laws Alliance founder Dr Michelle Maloney will give a project overview, before koala survey results are discussed by Nicola Peterson and Dr Romane Cristescu from the University of the Sunshine Coast.

At 2pm, Martin Fingland from Geckoes Wildlife will give a presentation with a selection of wildlife found in the Somerset region.

At 3pm, Bec Appleton from Bat Conservation and Rescue Queensland Inc will discuss flying foxes, and why they are an important part of the ecosystems.

Ipswich Koala Protection Society vet Rebecca Larkin will discuss koala health and habits from 3.30pm, before Sheena Gillman from BirdLife Australia discusses birds.

Proceedings will wrap up at about 5pm.

In addition to the presentations, speakers and information gathering, there will be lucky door prizes on offer throughout the afternoon due to donations from local businesses.
