Lowood police struggling to control crime
Following last week’s suspicious fire at Lowood Police Station where several police cars and part of the carport were damaged, the Somerset Council are questioning the Palaszczuk government’s regard for community safety.
At today’s Somerset Council meeting, councillors expressed their disgrace over the amount of crime that has occurred in recent months, including two break-ins at the CWA hall, graffiti, theft and fire.
Cr Sean Choat said the the Palaszczuk government has shown a “displacement for safety” and the community has been left vulnerable.
“How can residents feel safe in their homes if the police station is being targeted.”
Cr Choat said there are currently only 17 officers at the Lowood station, one more than in 2018.
He also said vehicles should be replaced immediately and more staff are needed.
Other Somerset councillors agreed that something needs to be done to address the shortage of police officers and poor crime management across the whole council region.
