After the Kilcoy/Woodford branch of Ray White Rural won a Christmas lights competition a little over a year ago, the staff chose to put the $300 prizemoney towards the memorial bench.

The bench was made by the Woodford and District Men’s Shed, with local resident Peter Kruger engraving the words ‘Until We Meet Again’ while there were 10 plaques commemorating individuals who passed away since 2016.

Each plaque contained a name, year of birth and year of passing, as well as a description such as ‘Our Pocket Dynamo’, ‘The Loveable Larrikin’, and ‘Forever Loved and Missed’.

Many of the people in attendance on Monday were family members of those who were commemorated on the bench.

Attendees were also encouraged to spread awareness of the opportunity to add the name of a loved one to the bench.

Sam Tetzlaff of Ray White Rural Kilcoy/ Woodford said the staff decided “let’s put something back into the community in memory of all the people we’ve loved and lost”.

“It’s more happy than sad,” Sam said of commemorating people on the new bench, which will remain outside the real estate office.

Following Monday’s official proceedings, the gathering of people hung around for morning tea while many also took the chance to sit on the bench and take a photo of it.
