Miss Galaxy Australia finalist calls Caboolture home
PARNEET Khaira is preparing to compete at the 2023 Australia Galaxy Pageant National Final in May, after being just one of 10 young women from across the nation to be selected.
With four years of modelling experience, Parneet has already been published in more than ten magazines, and has over 130,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram.
She is a runway model, influencer, brand Ambassador for Shein, Pandora, Romwe and Bondi Boost, a studio, makeup and clothing model, song promoter and Bhangra/Gidha dance coach.
After bringing home the title of Miss Ruby International in 2022, Parneet is now hoping to add Miss Teen Galaxy Australia to her list of achievements and ultimately “gain confidence and break the stereotypes of beauty”.
“Building confidence is the biggest goal I have at the moment,” Parneet said.
She said that in school she used to be “that little girl who sat in the library and didn’t really talk to anyone”.
“I felt like I needed to be more social, but when I tried to talk to more people, I think, because of my skin colour and background some people made some racists comments so I started sitting in the library again.”
One afternoon after school, her friend suggested that they do a photoshoot for fun and hang the photos up in their room.
Whilst taking the photos, Parneet realised how confident and empowered she felt and thought that perhaps this was what she needed to break out of her shell.
Since then, Parneet has made a name for herself in the modelling world and said that “it has always been a dream” of hers to compete in the Miss Galaxy Australia Pageant.
“I don’t just want to do it for myself. I want to do it for everyone wanting to compete and every single girl who is struggling with confidence and believing in themselves.”
“And I’m not just saying this because I want to win – it is actually something I have experienced.
“So, it’s very heart touching, which makes my passion ten times stronger.”
The 16-year-old will fly down to Sydney for four days to connect with like-minded women and participate in photoshoots, workshops, interviews, fun fashion and public speaking.
The pageant also includes the Miss Galaxy Australia Eco Fashion Show & Party and Crowning Gala.
To enter Miss Teen Galaxy Australia, contestants must be between 14 and 18 years of age, never married, have no children and be an Australian resident.
Finalists were selected based on an online written and video application.
There are five areas of the competition – interview, photogenic, fashionwear, swimwear and evening gown, with bonus points awarded for charity work and appearances.
The Australia Galaxy Pageants mission statement says their program aims at providing the motivation and tools for all delegates to become the best possible version of themselves.
“We provide a platform for our delegates to become role models to their peers, family and communities by that through charity work, community involvement, volunteering, overcoming fear or gaining more confidence.
“We consider our delegates family and encourage them to always reach their full potential whilst creating memories and friendships that last a lifetime.”
Australia Galaxy Pageants was founded in 2011 with the single title of Miss Galaxy Australia.
In 2012, the Miss Teen Galaxy Australia title was introduced, followed by Mrs Galaxy Australia in 2015 and Ms Galaxy Australia in 2018.
The four Australia Galaxy Pageant queens will then travel to the USA to represent Australia at the Annual Galaxy International Pageant.
