Moreton Bay gets loud with body percussion

UNLEASHING the percussive power of the body, over 20 Moreton Bay residents united for a morning of music and rhythm at the Caboolture Hub.

Over 20 Moreton Bay residents attended the Body Percussion workshop at Caboolture Hub on Wednesday January 11, learning how to play the drums and use their body to make music.

As part of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Joy Connection program, the Body Percussion workshop was open to all ages and abilities to learn how to use nothing but their own body and drums to create exhilarating rhythms.

Workshop facilitator Nick, who has been playing drums since he was in primary school, said “connection is key” when it comes to learning music.

“These workshops are about using your body to make noise,” he said.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the Body Percussion workshop, along with the other ‘making’ and ‘movement’ workshops in the Joy Connection program, provided the perfect opportunity for people to start their New Year’s resolution.

“The arts have always been a key way of connecting people and cultures, so Moreton Bay Regional Council is offering more opportunities for locals to get involved with art in many different ways,” he said.

“Our extensive program provides various entry-level workshops, activities, and experiences, like body percussion, for residents to dip their toe in and participate in art and culture.”

Bec from Morayfield, who has attended several of these workshops before, said it was great being able to do free family friendly workshops over the school holidays.

“It’s just something different to do and a bit of fun for the kids,” Bec said.

“It’s also great to learn new things.”
