New entry ramps open at Deception Bay Road interchange

THE final upgraded ramps are now open to traffic at the Deception Bay Road interchange, making it easier for motorists to access the Bruce Highway in Burpengary.

The ‘loop’ configuration of the upgraded, northbound, and southbound entry ramps is an important element of the design of the Bruce Highway Upgrade – Deception Bay Road Interchange.

Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says the upgrade will provide improved traffic efficiency and a safer access for motorists travelling through the interchange and onto the Bruce Highway.

State Member for Bancroft Chris Whiting said “this is big news for Deception Bay drivers, and big news for the safety of every person travelling to our community".

“There has been so much progress made over the past 12 months, and now we’ve got great news for summer with the entry ramp loops opening up.

“In addition to the entry ramp loops, the project is building two, new, wider, larger bridges across the Bruce Highway, which we’ve seen come together before our eyes.

“I look forward to the milestones we’ll hit in the coming months, thanks to the hard work of teams on the ground.”

Opening the Bruce Highway entry ramp loops marks another major construction milestone for the project, which is on track for completion in the coming months.

All four upgraded ramps at Deception Bay Road interchange are now open to traffic.

Construction is well underway on the upgrade, with the first of two new bridges across the Bruce Highway opened last year and works progressing on the second one across the highway.

The project will deliver two, new, parallel bridges over the Bruce Highway, upgrade two signalised intersections on Deception Bay Road, increase the length and capacity of existing entry and exit ramps, and provide active transport facilities for people walking and riding.

The Bruce Highway Upgrade – Deception Bay Road Interchange is funded on an 80/20 basis, with the Australian Government contributing $130.64 million and Queensland Government contributing $32.66 million.

Major construction started in November 2020 and is expected to be completed in early 2023, weather and construction conditions permitting.

State Member for Kurwongbah Shane King said the Palaszczuk Government is committed to getting Bruce Highway drivers home safer and sooner.

“As our region continues to grow, it’s important upgrades like this one that will deliver daily time savings to commuters, parents on the school run and all those just going about their days,” Mr King said.

“This congestion busting upgrade is also supporting 270 good local jobs and I want to thank each of those workers for their tireless efforts throughout construction.

“I’d also like to thank locals for their patience as the roadworks have been happening, I know the reduced speed limits, lane and highway entrance changes have been at times frustrating, but I’m pleased to say there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“The good news is, we’re on track for completion of the whole project in the coming months, and I look forward to all of the benefits this will deliver to our community.”
