Open days at Stonehouse this weekend
The Moore-based Stonehouse will stage its annual open day weekend this Saturday and Sunday, with attendees welcome between 8.30am and 3.30pm.
The event will again promote awareness of Stonehouse buildings, and enable people to learn the historical value of them in a general sense as well as in a local sense.
This year’s occasion marks 150 years since Robert and the first lot of the Williams clan arrived in Australia, aboard the Storm King.
A working horse display, a horse drawn pie cart, heritage displays, market stalls, folk music, oral histories, a small blacksmith exhibition, and bush poets will be among the features.
Attendees will also have the chance to converse with the heritage stonemasons and carpenter, following their work on the Country Inn which will be revealed.
A painting of the Stonehouse will be a raffle prize, while a photo exhibition is staged at the Moore Hall. People’s Choice prizes will be awarded to first, second and third placings, and there will also be a children’s prize, while themes include ‘People and Places Somerset, South Burnett and Toowoomba regions’, ‘Stonehouse Open Day’, and ‘Sunrise and Sunsets’.
Access to the Stonehouse venue will be by bus only, with the vehicle leaving from the Moore Memorial Hall every 15 to 20 minutes, between 8.30am and 3.30pm.
Cost will be $10 per person, while children aged 12 and under are admitted for free.
