Opening puts spotlight on new facilities at two schools
Lee Street State Special School in Caboolture and Caboolture State High School have celebrated the official opening of new facilities.
The $24.4 million project included the development of two two-storey buildings and a multi-purpose hall shared between the neighbouring schools.
The Stage 2 facilities delivered two learning centres adding 20 new learning areas, several collaboration and practical skills spaces, as well as therapy and sensory rooms.
The multi-purpose hall, situated on the Caboolture State High School campus, features a stage and large performance space, multi-purpose sports courts, dance studios, a gym, kiosk, amenities and a music therapy room.
Construction of the facilities was completed by Badge Constructions Pty Ltd.
Stage 2a of the project supported an average of 26 jobs during the 2019-20 financial year, and Stage 2b supported an average of 14 jobs across the three years from 2020-21 to 2022-23.
Education Minister Grace Grace was represented at the official opening by the Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan, the State Member for Morayfield.
“This project is a fantastic example of how collaboration and cooperation between schools can benefit two school communities,” Ms Grace said.
“Stage 2 has doubled the capacity of the Lee Street State Special School and provided a multi-purpose hall and facilities for the students and community of both Lee Street State Special School and Caboolture State High School.
“The Queensland Government continues to invest in providing quality education facilities and supporting jobs as part of our focus on good jobs, better services and a great lifestyle for Queenslanders.”
Lee Street State Special School principal Aaron Morgan said the buildings make a huge difference to the learning opportunities the school can offer students.
“Having the hall as a shared facility builds on our already strong and supportive bonds with our neighbour Caboolture State High School and its student body.”
Caboolture State High School principal Fiona Free said the school is proud of the inclusive culture it has created for a diverse range of students, including winning the statewide Showcase award for Excellence in Inclusive Education in 2020.
“We encourage positive supportive interactions between our students and the students of Lee Street State Special School, and the shared hall will only help foster this relationship.”
Mr Ryan said a good education is the foundation of every great community, and these new facilities mean students at both Lee Street and Caboolture State High have even better opportunities to become outstanding members of our local community.
