Qld livestock owners want branding to stay

A FREE AgForce Webinar addressing the future of livestock brands and earmarks in Queensland attracted more than 200 livestock owners yesterday (January 12).

Attendees were given the opportunity to join in on the debate regarding two possible options for brands and earmarking:

  1. Retaining the current legislative requirement for branding with the addition of a renewal fee

  2. Providing choice about branding under a streamlined system with a renewal fee under two sub-          options:

        A) Giving owners the option of an exemption from mandatory branding of cattle or pigs

        B) Giving owners the option of voluntary branding of cattle or pigs

The general feedback suggested that most Qld livestock owners would prefer to continue branding, and are not fans of NLIS tags and increased registration fees.

Public consultation regarding the future of livestock brands and earmarks finishes at 5pm on Sunday January 15 2023.
