Ready for Red Ride this Saturday
The stage is set for the annual Moreton Bay Red Ride to take place in Caboolture and other parts of Moreton Bay this Saturday.
A Show ‘N’ Shine, games and stalls will also feature on the day, which is all about fundraising and generating awareness about domestic violence (DV).
With the Rotary Club of Caboolture organising the event, all monies raised will be donated to not-for-profit organisations that provide support for individuals and families impacted by DV.
Riders are encouraged to dress in red, with the route spanning 185km as it starts and ends at the Caboolture Showgrounds.
The bikes will leave the showgrounds at 8.30am, and head down Morayfield Road before arriving at the Clontarf-based Pelican Park.
The journey will continue along the Hornibrook Bridge, with people entering the car show also welcome to use their cars to join in the activity with the riders.
Awards will be presented in the Show ‘N’ Shine, with bike categories comprising Oldest Age Combo (combination of age of rider and age of bike), Furthest Travelled, Best 3 Wheeler, Best Decorated Bike (Red Ride Themed), Best Dressed Rider (Red Ride Themed), and People’s Choice.
Car categories comprise Best Decorated Car, Best Original Car, Best Restored Car, Best Dressed Driver, and Best Club display.
The Car Show ‘N’ Shine will be awarded at 1pm, before the Bike Show ‘N’ Shine is awarded 30 minutes later.
Games include helmet throwing and spanner throwing, with prizes on offer.
Prizes will also be awarded for best dressed spectator (adult and child).
DV support organisations on site will include DV Safe Phones, Broken to Brilliant, Dare Formal Wear and CADA, with DV Safe Phones welcoming donations of old mobile phones.
Attendees are also welcome in the Bourdon Street Bar, where they can listen to classic hits from 101.5FM and watch a montage of bike and car images on a big screen.
Rotary Club of Caboolture secretary Kathleen Finter said domestic violence order (DVO) applications in the Caboolture Court district increased by 29 percent in the past 12 months.
“(This is the) third highest increase across all of Queensland – not something our beautiful region wants to win a bronze medal in,” she said.
“In the Pine Rivers district, they increased by 25 percent. “So, anything that we can do as a community to say this is Not OK is a small step in the right direction.”
Gates open to bikes at 7am before general admission is available from 11am, with a gold coin donation required at the entrance.
