Refreshed Wolves ready to return
THE Stanley River Wolves will play their first match in more than three weeks as they contest the Noosa Pirates at Tewantin Sports Complex this Saturday.
The Wolves beat the last-placed Gympie Devils on forfeit before the Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League (SCGRL) had a general bye last weekend, meaning Stanley River would have a 22-day break between games.
In second place on the reserve grade competition ladder – six points behind the lead and six points ahead of third place – the Wolves are about to start a run of six matches on successive weekends in the lead-up to the finals.
With the team disrupted by injuries for much of the year, it remains to be seen how many players return to the arena this weekend.
While the Wolves drew the now fourth-placed Beerwah 18-all on June 16, Noosa went down to the now third-placed Kawana 16-10 the following day and then beat the seventh-placed Caloundra 19-6 a week later.
Stanley River trounced the now fifth-placed Noosa 36-12 when the teams met at Woodford back on May 5.
