Earlier this year, Council commissioned well-recognised consulting firm, AECOM, to develop the Lowood Futures Strategy to drive economic development and investment for the town and make it a regionally attractive destination.

Somerset Mayor, Graeme Lehmann, said the Draft Concept Master Plan for Lowood was now out for public consultation.

“We see so much potential in Lowood and Council wants to be able to secure new investment into the town as well as provide a vision and concept masterplan that amplifies the town’s unique brand and identity,” Cr Lehmann said.

“Council anticipates the outcomes of the strategy will provide an investment roadmap for Lowood, Council, business and the community for the coming years.”

In creating the draft concept plan, Council consulted with the Somerset community, via the establishment of a community reference group, to develop a Vision and Draft Concept Master Plan for Lowood to guide the Lowood Futures Strategy.

Cr Lehmann said now was the time for broader community to have their say.

“The input from the reference group so far has been fantastic, but I now encourage everyone to have their say on the project and the future vision and opportunities for Lowood by visiting the online survey on council’s website,” he said.

“There are several enhancements being considered including building a community hub, moving the current parking area, more landscaping to improve the overall aesthetics of the town while developing existing available land for future retail, dining, office and short-term accommodation opportunities.”

Residents can have their say on the Draft Concept Master Plan until September 5 by visiting www.somerset.qld. gov.au.

Residents can also view the draft plans at the Lowood Customer Service Centre and email feedback to Council via mail@somerset.qld.gov.au.
