Schoolies urged to pack a GoCard
School leavers heading to Schoolies this year are reminded to stay safe on the road ahead of celebrations.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the fatal five continue to be contributing factors to more than half of lives lost on Queensland roads.
“The 'Fatal Five' are speeding, drink/drug driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, fatigue, and driver distraction,” Mr Bailey said.
To get between schoolie venues, Mr Bailey encouraged school leavers to have a plan.
“Safety is our number one priority so it’s important that school leavers have a travel plan in place.
“On the Gold Coast, the glitter strip is connected to the G:Link tram from Helensvale to Broadbeach, so everyone can hop on board and safely get where they need to go.
“Across the state, bus services will also operate as usual.
“Normal fares will apply so make sure you are tapping on and off at tram stations or onboard buses.
“Taxis and ride share providers are also in high supply and are an affordable option for groups travelling between events.
“Whether you are celebrating on the Gold Coast, Airlie Beach, Cairns or beyond, there will be services near you to get you where you need to be.
“So, to the class of 2021 schoolies - stay safe, know your limits and congratulations on an epic achievement.”
