Somerset Council awards Community Assistance Grants

Three Somerset community groups will benefit from a range of grants awarded to them by Somerset Regional Council.

The Kilcoy District Football Club was awarded a $2,500 grant to supply event facilities for the Queensland Rugby League (QRL) Hostplus Cup 2023 Activate Queensland! Country Round, which will be played at Hopetoun Sports Fields in Kilcoy this Saturday.

This round of the Hostplus Cup features a match between the Brisbane Tigers and Tweed Seagulls on Kilcoy soil, with this fixture to be streamed online to a potential audience of 200,000.

Somerset Councillor Sean Choat said participation in the Hostplus Cup was great for country football.

“This coincides with a new-found interest in rugby league in Kilcoy and is a great opportunity to further encourage community participation in sport, particularly for our newer residents,” Cr Choat said.

The annual Toogoolawah Show successfully applied for a Community Assistance Grant of $1,500.

Sponsorship of $2,500 will be provided for the third annual Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Festival of Cycling to be held on Saturday, September 9.

The event attracts between 350 and 400 participants in distances ranging from 45km to 100km.
