SOMERSET Regional Council has received the first of what it says will be “hundreds” of permanent road restoration approvals from Queensland Reconstruction Authority following this year’s devastating floods.

Local Disaster Management Group member, Cr Jason Wendt said, “We have been working with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority since February and keeping them informed about the significant rebuild required for our region.

“The way the process works is that we can only carry out preliminary repairs in the first instance to make roads safe and we must get detailed approval of the final repair solution for each damaged segment of each road.

“We are grateful to the QRA and the Australian and Queensland Governments for providing funding support to reconstruct a major culvert on Glamorgan Vale Road for around $200,000.

“This is the first permanent repair approval given by the QRA of what may be hundreds of approvals we will be seeking and working on over the next two years.”
