Local Disaster Management Group Chair and Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the QFES funds were in addition to the $360,318 contributed this financial year to rural fire brigades in Somerset.

“The work performed by QFES, other emergency personnel and volunteers in protecting our community is wide-ranging and vital. They are there to help in all manner of disasters from floods, fire and traffic incidents,” Cr Lehmann said.

“Council is continually observing helicopters transferring people to and from Esk hospital and unfortunately fatalities and non-fatal incidents are continuing on local highways and roads.

“We are grateful for the support of emergency personnel and the great work they do in Somerset.

“Council will continue to work hard so that emergency services like rural fire brigades and State Emergency Service groups are well resourced.”
