Somerset SES recruiting new members
Somerset State Emergency Service (SES) Unit is looking for new members.
Somerset and Local Disaster Management Group Chair and Somerset Regional Council Mayor, Graeme Lehmann, said the unit was recruiting in all towns across Somerset.
“The unit currently has around 60 members working across a range of voluntary roles and is keen to increase volunteer membership across the region, and particularly in Esk and Toogoolawah,” Cr Lehmann said.
“There are plenty of different jobs and activities that the SES become involved in, everything from storm damage to roofs and fallen trees, flood boat responses, evacuations, first aid, search and rescue and more.”
All members are provided with full training, support and qualifications that both suit their abilities and interests.
Training will give them the skills and knowledge to deal with natural disasters and emergency situations at short notice.
In 2022, Somerset SES received 367 requests for assistance, with 265 of those occurring during the February to March flood period.
Somerset SES groups meet for training at 7pm each Tuesday in Kilcoy and every Wednesday in Esk, Lowood and Toogoolawah.
